Once again our summer line up has begun. From here on out, we are basically on call for gigs as we seem to get results from performing at the shows that we do yearly.

So many kind folks who come to see us and so many wonderful supporters makes this a joy for us as we play the old songs that you grew up with in the 60's, 70's (especially), and the '80's at times. Your support, applause, encouragement, and basically your smiling and positive faces makes us want to do our best for you and exceed your expectations. Hopefully we do and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for coming to see us.

Once again we will let you all know that we have several versions of the band:

The full 7 member lineup consisting of, Mike Toombs on guitar, Larraine Taylor on Keyboards, Paul Blaskovich on bass, Kenny Dodge on drums, Brian Hess on drums and percussion, Ralph Perez on guitar and also our soundman, be it Steve Reed, Kevin Hess, Kim Dodge, or Eric Liester.

The smallest is the 4 member lineup consisting of various of us musicians as requested.

An finally all sizes in between.

Pricing will vary according to length of play time, the venue (when and where) and size of the band. If you're interested in a company party, a birthday party for that couple who have hit the magic mark etc... Give us a call and let us play your party.

Well here we are having entered a new year. We're so glad that the nail has been placed into the coffin for 2009. It was the quietest year and the year where the band played so very little. Ususally, our Decembers are booked solid. Well, this was not the case for the year 2009. However, lest you think we are down on the year 2009, many great things happened this year and for that we are grateful and we're looking forward to a wonderful playful year where you all get a chance to experience the 40 Somethin Band Sound!

Since 2005 our Bass player Tony Perez has been a part of the 40 Somethin Band in one way or another. Either he's been our biggest fan, roadie, promoter Bass player, guitarist..etc. The reality is he dropped right into the spot of bass player when our friend John Ferguson departed the band. He was a newbie yet he was seasoned in that he was the bass player for the VooDoo Monkeys here in town back in 1998 and 99. He learned to rumble with that little ol' band and he learned to fall into the groove playing with them.
When he came on board with us, we gave him a 3 set cd with the songs he needed to learn in two weeks for a particular gig we had scheduled. Please keep in mind that Tony is half our age and these old rock songs were songs he literally had to learn and become familiar with. Fortunately a few of the songs have been remade by newer artists which helped. Julie, Tony's wife said that he listened day and night and played along with the cd every waking moment as it was his dream to play in a band with his dad, Ralph. He stepped up to the plate swinging hard and he learned how to play "In The Groove" with the help of the deep percussion background of the Brian and Ken rhythm machine! He came in rather green and left this year having become a solid, deep thumping, in the groove bass player. In fact, his touch is so much a part of the 40 somethin Band sound that he will be missed terribly. Not only because he's such a good bass player but because he is such a genuinely nice person. His dad Ralph will miss him terribly but we know that his needs are huge at the present time and we understand and we bid him farewell from being the fulltime bass player for the 40 Somethin Band. You can catch Tony playing with his new band "Desonance" (Tony Perez, Eric Liester, Josh Parmer, Scott Hobbs, and Zach Simpson)

We take the time now to present to you our newest member of the band Paul Blaskovich!!!! We know him as "The Italian Stallion", "Pablo" and he like Tony, is a genuinely nice, clean cut, polite and in the groove player. He doubles and also plays bass for the band Code 7 as well as now playing the bottom end of the 40 Somethin Band.

Paul says:

I started playing bass guitar when I was in high school from an idea a buddy of mine had to start a band. It lasted a little over a year. Then eight years ago I started back up again. There is nothing like the feeling you get when the crowd is interacting with the songs you are playing. Rock On!

Mike and Terrie's Wedding- 40 Somethin Plays It Up with Guests

On Saturday the 14th of November our beloved brother at arms was married to the former Terrie Miller now Mrs. Toombs. Of course, it was only natural that the Band play at this gig. The only difference is that it was an open stage for all to participate that wanted too. Mike's cousin Paul came up and sang "From a Jack to a King". We stepped into country mode and did it up right. Thanks Paul.

The stage was set and with one less set of drums and just the percussion was set up for Brian. It was a tight Stage but still we used lots of equipment and also we used the smaller amps for this gig so that we wouldn't blast them out of dodge! ha ha

We also had a guest appearance from a '70's porn star dancing up to "Play That Funky Music White Boy" (thanks Quinn). While we did this tune we had Kevin Hess playing the bass for us. Tony Perez made an encore performance with the band and played several tunes with us. Finally Paul Blaskovich, the newest member of the 40 Somethin Band finished it out all night on the bass.

We also want to thank other guests that played, Steve Reed, Mike Doggett, and John Holst.

Thanks for letting us play Mike and many thanks to the beautiful children who were dancing all night. That was worth everything to us. All in all it was a very fun performance and there was no pressure but only to have fun.

So, the kind folks at the Eagle Rock Art Guild have an annual sidewalk art show. This is our second year to play for them and to provide entertainment for all the families that come through the Greenbelt to view the fine art displays that many of our local artists have created. It is a fun family event and we really enjoy playing our acoustic set of stuff. We could go on forever but, the heat, and lack of shade made it very difficult to stay much longer than we did. We hope you all enjoyed the show and we'll see you there on Tuesday the 28th for Snake River Concerts.

King Wedding and Party with the Ponies 5-23-09

Another absolutely unpredictable gig. We played inside of the King Equestrian Center. I mean right in the arena itself. The horses could be heard rockin' out and kicking the sides of their stalls. I figured they were having a good time just like the entire crowd seemed to be having while we played. The Kings are ever so kind and they are excellent hosts.

The wedding was beautiful even in the Arena. It was a bit dark and we couldn't open the center doors for the ever present Idaho wind kept blowing all of the napkins at the tables, away! None the less, we quickly pulled the vehicles in and shut the doors and unloaded.

There was a stage that was about 3 feet off of the ground and which was shaped well enough to fit us all in there nicely. it was a bit dusty but considering it was an all hard packed dirt floor that the wedding was on, a person could understand why it was as dusty as stated.

Interestingly enough, the bride had been one of the coconut girls from the party we had there a few years ago and when we played outside. That was back in the day when we were just a 4 piece band. Now with 7 members (6 musicians and a sound person), we come just a bit bigger and a bit more polished.

It was fun to watch folks dance all night long to the old tunes we do. We never did get to some of the ones we practiced like the Alan Parsons song. But, we gave them the show and stuck really close to the set list.

Our thanks to the mighty Kevin Hess for filling in for Tony. Tony was enroute to Florida for a vacation. He did a great job and worked hard! Way to go Lemmy! Also, thanks to Kim for running the sound, and to Scott for being the roadie. It was a good thing to have them along.

Now we tune up for the shows in July. Come see us!

Roadhouse Blues Recording (for Marissa)

So last night we gathered a few of us up for a recording session. Larraine on the keys, Tony on the bass, Kenny on the drums, Mike and Ralph on the guitars and also Mike on the mouth harp! Holy hanna was it a rockin. We laid down the music and Mike sang one scratch vocal for Roadhouse Blues.

It came about because Marissa, Ralphs daughter is coming in this weekend and wants to record her vocals on Roadhouse Blues. So, we were the backup band and we laid the back end in for her. Our beloved Brian wasn't there and is out for the next little while. He tried to put his eye out last week and it is having trouble with his vision and with the pain.

All we know is that we want him to get better so he can come a rockin with us.

We swapped around instruments last night as we noodled around getting ready. Larraine grabbed Mikes Guitar, Ken grabbed the keys, Mike grabbed the drums and we noodled around a bit with this arrangement. It was just something to break up the tension of recording.

We're pretty quiet right now as we prepare for the season that is coming up.

Jammin' with the Jazz Boys @ Vino Rosso

So, last night we had a very nice and sincere invite to play with some of the finest Jazz talent in this town of Idaho Falls. To say we are even remotely jazz is a huge stretch of the imagination. We are are pure unadulterated rock and rollers from the word go. We even played some of our mellowest and smoothest pieces that we do like Moondance, Ain't no Sunshine, Crystal Blue Persuasion, along with our own favorites like Midnight Rider, End of the Line, and Cover of the Rolling Stone. We rocked them acoustically and they in turn jammed the jazz all night long. We heard them attempt to do Route 66 ala jazz and I'm sorry, that tune needs some overdriven (slightly) guitar and one heck of a back beaten blues timing to make it work. Brian and Ralph ran up there and helped them "Git'er done!" Then They broke into a version of Mustang Sally and then we showed them how it's supposed to be played with Kenny on the skins and the rest of the band just making great music with all the Jazzies in town.

We'll probably never get invited back but it was fun. We really did feel a bit out of place. Maybe like the Beatles at the Cavern back in the day. Brian says that they were in the middle of an Elvis song back in the day and some one told them to turn it down because it was a "Jazz" club. Well, we felt the same way at Vino Rosso as the Beatles did at the Cavern .

We wnt to thank Kevin Young for the invite and if he wants, we'll come again but we'll need to show the boys there how to rock it up a little. Wait! I think they call rockin' jazz Fusion? Right?Hmmmm. Are we on to something here? ha ah ha ...

More "Mint Condition" Gigs..

Well for the most recent time being, the 40 Somethin Band has been rather quiet. We've been working on two tribute recordings. One will be a tribute to the Beatles and another will be a tribute to America ( the band). Obviously, not quite the more complicated stuff that we do for the summer but that will be coming along soon too.

It's been a rather quiet time for the band. Not many are able to pay for a full 7 piece rock and roll band with the economic woes that we all seem to be feeling. So the 40 Somethin Band has been rather light on shows and dances. However, Larraines ever faithful Mint Condition Band keeps booking them. That band can load in a Van and a car for thier gigs as opposed to a van and two full pickup loads for the 40 Somethin Band.

Anyway We got some shots of a gig we did with Mint Condition Band around the Valentines Day time frame.....

Mint Condition Band New Years Party 2008!

Nobody can say that the Mormons can't Rock & Roll all night long! Because they did for this little band.

Of course, it wasn't the 40 Somethin Band but rather the "Mint Condition Band". Or was it "Odds and Ends" or was it "Barry Jive and the Uptown Five"? Ha ha ha ha What ever we were it was fun. Larraine is so good to invite us from the 40 Somethin to help with her and Steve's collaboration of musicians. These guys are some of the best Crooners in Town. Josh, Larraine's boy can sing like no tommorrow ( as only the Crooners can). Steve Reed, is the ultimate Idaho Crooner), Larraine with her Sweet and ever so masterful voice adds all the neccesary class that the band could ever need and her playing is like off the charts. Leighton Linning (alias Lightning Boy), Larraine's son, was with us that night. He was one of the originals in their group as was Josh, and does he have a knowledge of music. The kid is all Jazz and Hot Country Pickin! That's why we nicknamed him Lightnin'Boy! he put this old man to the paces (Ralph). Brian ( alias Thunder Foot) Pounded new holes in his drums all night. They sprung a couple of songs on him that we didn't practice together. It worked though. Just like Butter. He is an amazing drummer and percussionist. Our ever faithful Ken Dodge was running the sound tonight instead of up here doing the Allman Brothers double duty as we like( btw- there is nothing like playing on stage with 2 drummers. it is so immensely thick and easy to play with!). Also, Kim Dodge was with him to keep him in check with the sound. I think the sound guy works just as hard all night at a gig as the musicians. 16 channels and volumes going up and down all night long and band members complaining about the monitors! Darned musicians anyway.

None the less, it was fun and we can't wait to do it again! Thanks LDS Singles for the opportunity to play for you guys!

Greater Idaho Falls Realtor Show 12/19/08

Talk about a fun night playing for these folks. They are a fun bunch for which to perform . they danced almost the entire night and had we had a great time watching them Dance. Our thanks to the ever so elegant and beautiful Susan for having us play.

One thing we noticed was that tough times had hit these dear folks too. There seemed to be far fewer participants at the party than there were last year. It was a fun night for us even with the fewer people. Our only challenge was the crazy party that was going on next door. Their sound equipment was so loud that it was hard for Kim, Kevin and Eric to runt the sound.

One note to mention, Lightin' Boy Linning was with us all night long. He is Larraines son and is a slick country picker and a jazz enthusiast. He said to me after the show, " Man you guy are pure rock and rollers". Felt good to have such a fine compliment form such a talented player. We went home with swollen heads after that!!!

Also, Mike found a new "Beauty" to look at while we played. Thanks, whoever you are!

Well at this writing much has happened with our beloved band. We have played several gigs with Larraine's Mint Condition Band. We've all slid over a chair and either have run the sound, played guitar or sang songs that we don't know to well. We have enjoyed the play time with Mint Condition and we will be supporting them through a few more this year.

Also, we will be playing in shifts at the Festival of Trees here in Idaho Falls on various days. Tony and Julie Perez and all of their Kids will be singing and performing at 1 p.m. on Nov 18. Larraine and her 3 generations will be performing at 4 on the same day. Seth, Mike and Ralph (The Original "Looking Back Band" Line-up) will be on at 8 on the 18th of November. Larraine, Steve, & Lorane will be on the day of the 20th. Plus I'm sure we will be gathered as the 40 Somethin to fill in spots at night. Come if ya can.

Currently we are working on our newest recording ( number 8). We've got five songs in the box and will lay down another few songs and try to put one or two on the blog soon.

Our most devastating news came as a surprise. Our beloved Main Man lost his Eternal Companion last month. To our beloved friend Mike, and to his beautiful wife now gone Terry, We love you both. You're in our prayers and forever Terry, you will be in our minds. Thanks so much for being amoungst one of our best fans. Terry, we'll take care of Mike!!! Just like you took care of many of us. We will behave as now were too old to really mess up anymore (except Tony and he's a saint!) You really never had to worry. Were just old dogs on a porch just wagging our tails at them all. We no longer chase them like we did when we were young!!! wink wink!!

LDS Singles Conference Dance 9-19-08

What a fun Gig! The folks love to dance and the entire crowd danced all, and I mean ALL night long. We even played extra time for them because they were having so much. Funny thing, I met one of the gentlemen who had come to the dance in the bathroom and he asked me to make sure that we played plenty of waltz'. I told him that we had a few for them but mainly, we had some cuddle songs that he ought to take advantage of and savor the moments. He said he would and I think he did.

People seemed to be having tons of fun and it looks like we had many people smiling and dancing away.

The band was short our beloved keyboard player, Larraine, who was off traveling the country with her hubby Kent! We rocked them all night long with just the guitars, acoustic and electric both. Loads of fun.

Kevin, Brians son and our new roadie, was there to capture the moments. He is a nut!

Now, a short break as far as performances and we'll do some recording the next few weeks.

Private Party For Liz and Scott

We get to the place where we are to play, a beautifully private and quiet neighboorhood, and look at the steep driveway from which we have to unload all of the stuff. It was a good thing there were some treats to eat there!!! ha ha ha...

Once in the backyard, we set up in the corner facing the house and the lawn was rather uneven. Our set up looked rather "Dr. Suess-ish". Our amps were leaning into eachother because of the uneven ground, and we were plenty far apart from eachother that I had to strain to hear Mike and he me. We probably should line out these amps too. Oh well. We did discover why it was so quiet of a neighboorhood. It's because we had a rather reverent croud of several thousand listening right behind us!!! The Cemetery!!!!!! Yikes!!!! All we can say is that we hoped they liked us!!!! We should have played "Roll Over Beethoven"!!!!

Anyway, we were welcomed by a curious and friendly cat, and a rather hungry looking Chau dog! Ended up he was friendly. We hope that we made Liz' day! It was fun.

"Alive after 5" 8-6-08

We put on another show for the folks at the Alive after 5 crowd down town yesterday. Folks stayed, sang and just listened as we sawed out tunes that were all familiar but mostly unheard for years. We even knocked off a rendition of "Dreams I'll Never See" by the Molly Hatchet boys. We forgot to play our new signature song "Riding The Storm Out" because we had moved it down the list Brian says that after he sings that, his throat is shot. I believe it too. He sings his heart out on that one.

Anyway, we had a couple of goof ups on some songs but all in all, we plunked through them. I will say this...IT WAS HOTTER THAN BLAZES out there!

Also, we saw Steve Reed filming us. I wonder what he is coming up with? Hmmmmmmmm????!!!!..... We'll see I guess!

2008 Eagle Rock Art Guild Show

We played right behind a performance by some of our local belly dancers! It was funny...some things just have to be looked at twice!!! Anyway, we opened the show with a song by the Who, "SQUEEZEBOX". ha ha ha

All in all, it was a very fun, low key event where we did some of our best acoustic stuff. Lots of crowds and tons of fun. We're looking forward to next year for this gig.

Also, the last picture includes one of our future band members, Eric David (ED) Perez. Ralph's 2 year old grandson with his dad, Tony!!!

1968 Rigby High Class Reunion 7-12-08

A wonderful gig up in Rigby at the Old Rigby High School ( Now the Jr High). We dug up the the hits from 1968 and reviewed them and started wailing away at several old tunes. It was fun. These were the songs that many of us as little guys were listening to. This was Larraines 40th High School, Reunion. It was a pleasure to play for them. They seemed to enjoy it.

4th of July @ Scotty's

Well once Again, we played at Scotty's Drive-in (The Most Delicios Burgers and Shakes available in East Idaho) on the 4th. And once again, many of our loyal fans and family were there to hear us bang away at tunes to please the crowd. It was not as hot as previous years and this was fortunate for us. Don't get us wrong, it was still hot. Our beloved Tony ( Bass player) was north attending a family reunion and was in-route while we played. He was sure missed but our good pal and fellow musician Evan Smith ( Master Fiddle Maker) covered for him. Ken made another beautiful guitar (pictured between me and Evan). It was an Explorer with P-90's and a beautiful paint job ala Americana!! It plays beautifully too! I never played it but at least I displayed it there. Also, check out the cool double neck that Ken made. It is an amazingly wonderfuly jangly guitar with the Byrd's sound screaming from it's lutious pickups. Too much fun..... Also, can't forget Mike's "to drool for" collection of high end Strats and Pauls and Ricky's. Also, Brian and his new toy! ha ha ha

I'm Eric. I run the soundboard and the mix the sound for the band. Interestingly enough, the band doesn't hear what the audience hears. I'm responsible for getting the mix right. Controlling the Darned Guitar Players is the hardest part of the job!

I'm Larraine. I'm the only female in the band. I play the Keyboards, sing and play many instruments in this band. I also sing much of the harmonies in this band. We sure have a lot of fun playing and singing these classic rock tunes.

Hi...I'm Mike...sort of the "leader" of this fun group. This Band is my "therapy" in life....and I need plenty of it! Each member of this Band brings their own style and strenghts to the group. Put us all together and what you get is the "40 SOMETHIN BAND"

We play all the songs you grew up with.....from the classics of the Beatles...to the rockin sounds of ZZ Top, with lots of emphasis on Southern Rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Eagles, and the Allman Brothers.
